Can anyone tell me the best length shock to use
on the 74 250 hare scrambler ?

The 250 I just got has some long suckers off of a RM
on it and I want to get it back to legal travel
in correct position.
I thought 13.5 was what was on them but not sure.
13 and 5/8 ?

Hi Bob,
My '74 250 still has the original Girlings, which are 12.9".
But I think 13.5 would be a better way to go.

13" or 13.5"  Works Performance or Progressive.

"One Stop Moto" (Dan) for Progressive, around $200 with springs.

Kip,

Is it a better deal if I talk to Dan?  On the website the shocks with springs and fitting sleeves adds up to $250.  Is that right or do I call and talk to Dan to get a deal?  Thanks!

Call and ask for Dan, will probably give even a better deal if buying few pairs.  Nice guy he is!

I put 15" (maybe 15.5") Ohlins on mine and used the mounting hole on top of the axle, and the rear most upper mounting hole, ignoring the other 5 or 6 holes in the swing arm. This puts the force directly on the axle and eliminates the vertical bending forces on the swing arm. I then added about three little white plastic spacers on the shock shaft and it is AHRMA legal.

Make sure your chain doesn't drag on the swingarm....Sometimes that happens when you run a longer shock. I had to fabricate a teflon rub block for my 77 400 GS6.
