As of 9:17 am this morning: 1120 items listed for Penton.....of those, only 142 were in an auction format...alot of buy it nows....

I prefer buy it now, its less hassle and you know what you will have to pay. If its a deal or I really need it, I pull the trigger, if the price is too high I pass.

The Ebay auction model is fundamentally flawed in several ways and has been perverted and subverted by Ebay itself over the years. Best example of many? --Ebay tells bidders to "re-bid" when they've been "outbid". This is philosophically contrary to the model itself, which has inherent flaws to begin with. So, as a seller the best approach is Buy it now w/ offer option and best for buyer is automated (not homemade) sniping. Oh well you have to agree for whatever flaws it has you would NEVER in a lifetime of swap meets have the availability of parts and bikes it has generated. It is truly surpassed the Smithsonian as "America's attic".

I'm on the fence with ebay.  I agree with Brian.  I rather "buy it now" than deal with the hassle of trying to get my bid in 2 seconds before the bid ends.  I've found parts for my 79 KTM that were unobtainable for very good buy it now prices.  A pipe a rear frame loop an intake boot....  Now if I can only find a airfilter cage.  My 6-day cage works fine, but,,,,
