Dates announced for 2011 AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course

Thousands of vintage enthusiasts to gather on July 22-24

PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) is pleased to announce the 2011 dates for the country's premier annual celebration of motorcycling heritage. AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days will take place next year on July 22-24, 2011, at the world-class Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.

The 20th Annual AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days features classic motorcycles of all makes and styles, and honors the riders who made them famous. Activities include the AMA Racing Vintage Grand Championships, which feature road racing, motocross, hare scrambles, trials and dirt track; North America's largest motorcycle swap meet; bike shows and awards; a Marque of the Year display that showcases the history of a unique brand; a Grand Marshal; a new-product vendor midway; stunt shows; demo rides of current production bikes; and seminars on a number of topics by noted motorcycling experts.

"For many motorcyclists, AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days is the premier event of their riding seasons," said AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman. "As we've seen over the years, the appeal of this event goes beyond classic motorcycle collectors and strict vintage competitors. Motorcyclists of all eras are drawn to AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, brought together by their common love of all things motorcycling."

Tickets will go on sale Monday Nov. 22 at 8:30 a.m., and begin at $20 per day or $35 for the weekend. Please visit //www.midohio.com or call 800-MID-OHIO (643-6446) for more information or to order tickets.

"We are proud to be the host site of this excellent event for the 17th year," said Michelle Trueman Gajoch, president of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and The Mid-Ohio School. "It will be a phenomenal time for the motorcycle crowd as racing, the swap meet, seminars and more will capture their attention throughout the weekend. This year will be a special one as Mid-Ohio celebrates its 50th Season of Racing, giving fans another historic reason to attend AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days."

All proceeds from AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days benefit the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum. The goal of the Museum, located on the campus of the American Motorcyclist Association in Pickerington, Ohio, is to tell the stories and preserve the history of motorcycling's legends and heroes. After Jack let the date slip at the last POG meeting I checked on the closest rooms to Lexington the following morning.  The nearest were all filled already and I saw one in Ashland wanted well over $200 a night.  I elected to reserve a more reasonable room in Bucyrus a little longer cruise away but half the price [V]

Hotels have walls - yeck [xx(] That's fine in the winter and all.
I choose to sleep at the epicenter, on the earth's surface. :D

Can't wait!! I camped there for the first time last year and had a ball. The portable showers were great. Hopefully, will run the Motocross as well as the Trials.

When I stay in a motel,I stay at the Relax Inn in Shelby, Ohio.

I have been staying there for five years. The owners are from India and are great people.

I locked my keys in my van one year and the owner called his car club and got my van unlocked for me.

They let me park my trailer there which is a big plus as I don't like to leave it at the meet.

They charged me less than $200.00 for four nights. I like to stay Sunday and have a good rest for the long drive home.

To all my fellow POG members who have camped at Mid-Ohio for VMD, and for those who choose to stay in a hotel:  Hello.  Please help me with my decision whether to camp or hotel for VMD.  I enjoy camping, and have done it in a variety of conditions (Summer, Winter, mosquitoes, rain, snow, tent, under the stars, et.al.)  What I do need is a good night's rest.  What are the noise conditions during the night during VMD?  "Back in the day", at the other Mid-Ohio Moto-Cross Track in Lexington, Ohio, they raced Grand Prix MX races, and other big events.  We enjoyed the late-nite atmosphere.  LOUD music, truck 4x4's, motorcycles, parties, "beverages", fireworks, and this continued almost all night long.   It was fun then, but not now.   Ah, 30-some years later, I need sleep during the night.   Thank you,  Joe

Joe, I always stayed at nearby hotels. Last year I camped for the first time. I loved it. No worries about traffic and being on time for practice.
Other than the revving contest on Friday night, and some minor fireworks, all went well. My neighbor brought ear plugs from past experiences and said they work great. This year I'll try the ear plugs. But to tell you the truth, with all the excitement and anticipation of the weekend, I didn't sleep that great in the hotel anyhow. Kind of reminds me of what's coming up in about a month. I'm 47 and still don't sleep that great before either event!!
I also enjoyed the POG breakfast put on by Kip Kern and appreciated being invited. The portable showers worked great and depending on the time of day the line was short or non existent.
I'll camp from now on. Plus, It's included in your race fees.

joe deb and i have camped in the motor home parking for years and its so quiet at night you can only the hear people in your camp area snoring then in the morning the smell of fresh coffie and bacon will wake up hope to see you there dave when in doubt gas it

Mick Milakovic

Joe, some places ar quieter than others, and some are easier to get in and out.  The motor homes by the staging area is the quietest, but it's the hardest to get out of at the end of the event.  The woods edge is the easiest traveling, but also the noisiest.  Lots of party, fireworks, and drinking.  I prefer somewhere in the middle, along the gravel road/fence.  Either way there's lots of great people and I've never had a problem going to sleep.  I'm so tired from running around all day that sleep comes easy!  Can't wait, and see you there!

It is my true belief a racer could seriously compete in all five disciplines of racing at M/O  - WITH ONE BIKE.
-motocross
-cross country
-flat track
-road race
-trials
all on ONE motorcycle.
Of course my choice of bike would be a 74.5 Penton 400 or 250.
All that would be needed is 4 different sets of wheels / tires with the proper gearing on them.
You may run into some time restraints, probably with the amount of time involved in the road race.
But 4 different types of racing, easily.
What'd'ya'think'bout'dat ?

Baub..
The only problem I see with your theory is, you're eliminating the justification to own 5 Pentons.

Come on Man...in this case more is better.
