Thom, I have a set of NOS seals for 12mm shafts hanging on a nail over my bench many years, waiting for you to have a need. Tricky getting those apart at times. Shoot me a note if you need. [email protected]

I bought one of Rod's rebuild kits the 'Zokes on the '77 MC5 400. They were easy to install and priced right, I recommend them to anyone who wants to rebuild a set of those shocks. The hardest part is getting the big nut in the body of the shock out, it is in there REALLY tight.

I am not, however, happy with the performance of the 'Zokes. At first I thought they were great, and they were OK for cross country, but they were helplessly under-damped for MX. Hindsight being 20/20 I should have bought some Works shocks from the start, which is what I am going to have to do before I race it again.

Brian,

Are you sure you used heavy enough oil and correct air pressure?  I always thought the Zokes on an MC5 were pretty good and I am a fatboy compared to you.:D

Larry, I have the air pressure right, but I have been tempted to change the oil to a heavier weight. I asked and the consensus was 5w, but even at the time I was really tempted to try 10w. I have decided that with the softer springs on those shocks (the stock purple springs got swapped by accident) and the damping, I will use them as a dedicated CC pair and have a set of stiff spring/damping Works pair set up for MX.
