I have found a few various heights on some motors due to A- B-D motors liners/ cylinders and the four types of pistons and rods . What is if any; is the base line ?

None that I know of, the Sachs uses a standard base gasket for all 100/125's.  I had Cometic make them .020 when I was building engines full time and would buy them in 20 packs.

Kip, It never ceases to amazing me how few companies do not call out a deck heigth on their motor's. I would have thought that would be a standard.. any ideas why

Not sure.  I know Husky , Sachs, Rokon, CZ, MZ, Puch, Bultaco, Maico,  Hercules has a standard deck height.  KTM was the first engine I encountered that required a deck height set to the piston manufacturer recommendation.  Kinda neat though as if it(deck height)is low, it will have tons of compression, start hard, and not last long.  If it is high, tons of torque, start easy, and last a lifetime. I usually set mine to the max height recommended by the piston manufacturer as once it is ran and retorqed, it will settle a little bit lower. Never lost a piston in the last 40 years.;)  I like to be able to sit on my GS 400 and start it with my left foot.

Yea, I love the fact that I can set my deck height, I am still running the stock piston in my 76 250. I have a 72' husky cr 125 and I can not find anything but one thickness of base gasket, which puts the deck height way too large. It makes me nervous when I can't adjust it to my needs...

Make your own from Felpro!  Any thickness you desire.

tomale

That is a good idea, I will have to see if I can find the right thickness. the one that came off the bike appears to be about as thick as a center gasket... very thin.. thanks for the help. It maybe a blessing after all... one the bike is finish, I have no plans to race it and adjusting the deck height to a bit more sane should be a good idea.

Just wondering how raising or lowering the cylinder by adding thinner gaskets, or raising the cylinder by adding thicker gaskets affects the power band of the engine.  The ports are effectively raised or lowered by doing this.... and I know changing them just a bit can make a drastic change in power curve.   Joe
