Hey guys,
I'm posting this for Dan McEntee regarding the 400 he just acquired.  You can contact him directly (contact info below) or post here and I'll relay the info.  He has applied to get back on the POG board for future questions, etc.
Thanks!
Jeff

I recently purchased a 1977 Penton 400 with the help of Jeff DeBell. The bike is in reasonably good shape and is only missing one or two items I would like to find. I would like to complete the bike, getting it running and sort it out a bit before I strip it down to do any painting and cosmetic work.

My Bike is an MC-5 I believe. I would like to make it a GS model if possible. The bike does have Preston Petty headlight and rear fenders that were added sometime in it's life after it was new and are usable. I have the following questions to ask of the folks out there that know the bike better than me.

  1) Frame number is 550  0606.  The pipe and books I got with it indicate this is an MC-5. Does the frame number verify this? This bike doesn't have the rear frame loop for the rear fender.

 2) If it is indeed an MC-5,  was the rear frame loop for the rear fender a bolt on item?  If so, does anyone have one available for a reasonable price? If not I'll fabricate one.

 3) Anyone have a spare rear brake arm?  Is there a brake arm from another bike that will fit and function properly? This part was missing from my bike. I have everything else, I believe.

 4)  The pipe on my bike is a MC-5 pipe. I would like a GS pipe. anyone out there interested in a swap? Or have a GS pipe they would sell. I can do any welding or repair the pipe may need. An alternative is grafting on Super Trapp silencer that I got from Jeff

Thanks a lot for any and all help. Until i can get my membership restored and log on information sorted out, you can contact me directly.

The 550- frame is a MC-5. The GS-6 uses a completely different frame with an integral rear fender loop. The shrouded GS-6 pipe will not fit between the airbox and the frame on a MC-5. Hi-point made a bolt on rear frame loop that was universal and intended to convert a non Enduro frame to accomodate an Enduro rear fender. I believe that Roberto Petinato (Parmabike on eBay) has a rear frame loop that could be modified or used to mount an Enduro rear fender. The silencer on the MC-5 pipe could be replaced or modified to be more like the Enduro pipe. The GS-6 frames start with 701- or 703-, Etc. The Motoplat on the MC-5 probably has a lighting coil, check the number of wires to be sure. Mike
