Hi all,
I'm having trouble getting the lights to work on a DKW with a Sachs engine that is equipped with a Bosch points ignition. I'm not showing 6v at the junction block when the bike is running and so I'm thinking that the lighting coils could be bad. I'd like to check the lighting coils with an ohm meter but can't find any specs. Can someone tell me how many ohms I should get on both the main lighting coil (yellow/red wire), tail light coil (green/red wire) and the alternate coil (gray wire). Thanks !!

wow, 42 reads and no sparktrologists here??  Dave, is this a fair question or are you mud checking us ;)
I got a 5a motor with a lighting coil on a Sachs built bike if nobody comes up with an answer for you soon.  I always thought there was just one lighting coil and one spark coil on the bosh ignition. Its been awhile since I've checked...
I'll take a reading for you in the morning unless somebody has a coil on the shelf they can readily read.

Raymond,
Thanks for the reply and offer to help. Since making the earlier post, Vance Smith sent me an email with the specs on the 3 lighting coils. I checked the coils out and they were all good. I then took another look at the wiring and discovered that one side of the headlight switch is grounded to the headlight bucket. So basically once I turned the switch on, there was an easier path to ground through the switch than the headlight circuit and thus no lights. As a test, I re-wired the lights to remove the switch from the circuit and the lights came on as soon as the bike started. Now all I have to do is figure out a way to insulate the switch from the headlight bucket and I'll be in business.  Thanks again for your offer to help and also a big thanks to Vance for the quick reply and info needed to help me get past this issue.

Hi Dave,
Glad you got it sorted. I should check in here more often but I've been buried with bike builds, part searches, and ignitions.
