What Metal Are Perches Made From?

Does anybody know what the original Magura perches used on the 73 models are made of?  They are not magnetic, yet they are heavier than aluminum.  There is no rusting. The color is grey, and seem to have been either lightly plated or buffed.  Mine seem to have evidence that they had some sort of plating, yet the undersides don't look like chrome.  Any thoughts?  I want to restore them properly.

If you could do a high polish on them, that's what they should look like.

Some kind of Zinc alloy like the 24-27 bing carbs.
