Hey Guys. Long time lurker, first time poster, and New POG Member.. so here it goes...
My name is Dave Hurley, I live here in the Great Garden State, about an hour and some from Mike G.(yes, I know him)
 I'm the proud owner of a 77 MC5 400 (very cool bike), a 2003 KTM 250 exc plated (my do-all bike), and a 1979 KTM GS 80 (400) (my problem child).
I hate to ask this right off, but I'm trying to find a decent shifter shaft for the 79 400. Its the last thing I need for it.
The parts manual I have, seems to show the 125, 175, and 250's shared the same shaft p/n (if it helps)510-34-002-144 superseded to 510-34-002-044
Its a 14 mm shaft, with a welded spacer about 2 3/8in from the shifter, and about 7 7/8in overall length.
I'm hoping someone has one in a old box somewhere...
 Enjoy, Dave H.

I don't know if it is the same as the earlier KTM 400 part, but I can check over the weekend, as I may have one for a 76 400. I am away from home at work until tomorrow afternoon. Mike

Welcome "New Guy"...
If you have a POG Newsletter , "Still Keeping Track", there are a few parts vendors listed in the back. Al Buehner and Jake Fischer are two of the best suppliers perhaps give them a call.

Conrad, and Michael, Thanks for the quick comeback, and suggestions.
I never thought about asking Al B. about it. I need some other small things from him, I'll give that a try if Conrad doesn't have anything.
Conrad, Thanks for the effort. No Rush, just let me know when you get a chance.

Dave,
I checked and it looks the same as your measurements. This one has nice splines, is straight and just has a little wear on the end of the curved fork that could be touched up with a flat file easily. I thought they were all the same from 1974-early 1980. Pardon my old camera's slightly fuzzy pics. Email me at [email protected] Mike

Dave Hurley, my 400 shaft is from a 250 engine so they are the same.
Why is the bike a problem child? Do you have other problems than the shaft?

Dave Hurley

Hey Mr. Dirtbike. You have some fine looking rides there!
As for my 79 400 being a problem child... It was just me kidding around.
The bike is in a few milk crates, and needs re-assembly. When I bought it, it was together, but I gotta tinker. Besides, it didn't run (locked-up). When I tore it down, I found the shifter shaft was bent, and the splines got messed up as I was trying to get the motor side cover off, without breaking it. The side cover survived.
Now I have a new rod kit, piston & rings, bore, crank bearings, gaskets & seals... And thanks to Mr. Winter, I'll have a good shifter shaft. Now I just need time to do the work...
Whats the saying... All good things come to those who wait!

Thanks,

I hope you will enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine.

EDIT: The 400 is mine and the other one is my buddys 420 1981.
