Hello Group;
   I hope everyone had a great Christmas and has a Happy and Healthy New Year. I haven't been working on my '77 Penton 400MC that I have posted about before but now that the holiday crush is over, I'll be tinkering on it some more. Next up is the sloppy brake pedal and foot pegs.
  The brake pedal just needs to have the pivot re-bushed, but I noticed while looking at it that it has an extension that moves the rod attach point up and back about an inch each direction. I have compared it to my friends '77 GS400 and his doesn't have that. I found the part in my parts manual and will probably leave it on.
   The foot peg question I have may be related to the brake extension. I went to order a spare set of pegs from Al Buener and he said that my pegs were different and what he had won't work. The MC has a high and low peg position and there is about an inch between them.
  1) Is the brake extension solely for a little extra clearance when using the pegs in the higher hole?
  2) Is there a preferred position for the pegs? High or low? There really is only about an inch difference.
  3) Anyone have a spare set of pegs for the '77 Penton 400MC? Mine a just a little beat up. I can repair them, but would like to find a pair in better condition, then modify these with a wider foot rest when I repair them.
  Thanks a lot in advance,

Dan, those '77 MC5 pegs are unique and they are ultra-rare, one year only and only on the MC5. I welded extentions on mine to make them wider, but I did not do anything to them that could not be cut off and restored back to original if the bike were ever to have a full resto.

I run the pegs in the upper position, but a taller person would probably prefer the lower. I ran the lower in the first half of the '10 season when I had my fresh knee injury, it put my knees in less of a bind. Donno about your pedal question, but I know I didnt have to do anything to the pedal when I moved the pegs.

I might have a pair of 77 pegs in my bucket 'o KTM parts.  When I bought my '78 I received a stash of 77 stuff. Seem to recall some pegs in there. Will check on Sat.

Dan,
I have some spare dual position 77 MC5 footpegs. I have been told that the brake pedal extension was used to make the brake rod travel perpendicular to the swingarm pivot axis for proper brake action through the suspension action when the lower positions are used for the footpegs. I will see how many sets I have Thursday evening or Friday morning. Email me at [email protected] Mike

Dan,
So far I found a spare set and a LH side footpeg in good condition if you need a set. Email me [email protected] Mike
