IF I was going to run a Mikuni on my Dec '72 Jackpiner, what size would I use? 30mm? 32mm?

Any idea what you are running for jet sizes and carb settings? Also what model Mikuni are you using?

Doug, I am don't thing that is "going to the dark side" Back in the day many a rider put a Lectron carb on their Penton I even have an article from way back when, that discusses the advantages/and possible disadvantages of doing so.  I for one have a Mikuni on my 76 250 and it has been there since 2004. It runs great. I made the swap  because Bings are so expensive and because it easier to get parts. To my surprise, it runs better than my stock Bing.
Just to be clear, not all my bikes have gone to the dark side. My Maico's work better with Bing's  I tried for over a year to get the jetting settled out and it never ran right until I went back to a Bing, but Penton, that is a different matter.  Penton and Mikuni are a Match made in.. well a really nice place.:D

I was kinda joking about the Dark Side thing. Some of the purists may not approve, but my bike's a rider, and I intend to use whatever will work the best. The original style choke is kinda hokey compared to a Mikuni. And it's not like I'm doing something to the bike that can't be easily returned to stock, should some future owner decide to do so.

I can't wait to show up at our favorite riding spot with the Jackpiner on the trailer. It should spark some interest and probably many comments from our riding buddies.

Doug, I know you were joking about the dark side.. no worries, you are right about some of the purist. But most would agree that the mikuni is a better carb and most will like the way that it works. There are situations that it is hard to beat a Bing though. In cold  and rainy days more often than not, the Bing will start easier. With a Mikuni you really do not have a choice how much the choke lever enrichin the mix, at least with a Bing you have a choice. If the bike does not start after holding down the Tickle for a few secondes you can hold it down again and it will add more fuel. This is the main reason I have Bing's on my Maico's  (maico's love fuel)
If I was you, I would more than likely put a Mikuni on it. AS for size, what ever was stock, put the same sise Mikuni on it. I am pleased to hear that this bike will be runner and not a Garage queen.. Take care my friend and keep us updated as you finish this bike..

My 79 440 Maico runs much better with a Mikuni than it did with any of three different Bings I tried. The only bikes I have not converted are the 400 Penton MC5 (too much trouble to make it fit) and the Berkshire (it still runs good with the Bing). Eventually the MC5 will get a Lectron and the Berkshire will get a Mikuni too.

Would you mind posting the model or other info on what you bought from Sudco? It sounds like it would be an exact match for my bike. Thx.
