Gary,

I am fairly sure that KTM only built 2 models (maybe 3) of the 250 in 1982.  If it was 2, they would be the the MC, and GS.  The MC was air colled with monoshock suspension, while the GS was also air colled with dual shocks.

The serial number 8 digits (located near the fork stem) of your frame will provide the specific model you have.  I think the 82 250 model year serial number were 10328000 to 10429300 and 10730169 to 10730648.

My bike has a 8201 serial and has a gen for lights and is a 6 speed but the rear has no loop. Maybe a desert bike. Gary

I think you'll find from '79 to '84 or so, that there were no difference in VIN #s or engines/trans ratios for MC vs GS, just large tank/lights kits/speedo/bolt on rear loop and rear fender sold for GS versions. Or they came with those additions and maybe different decals, but same motors & frames on GS or MC, The specs for 79 420 for example, is identical in all ways with GS and MC except GS shows 1.5mm base gasket vs 1mm base gasket for MC, for slightly higher compression.

I have the quish set at 040mm. Do i need to use liquid permatex between the base gaskets to glue them togeather?  Gary Smith

More than 1 base gaskets? Won't hurt to put permatex between two if you're stacking a couple to get the right thickness, but usually no need for anything between gasket and mating surface. I grease them up lightly so they stay in place and cinch em down, never a problem.

Thanks Big Mac. It says in the manual to be sure and check the quish.  I had a canam 400 B that burned a hole in the top of the piston because i did not check the quish and it was way to close. You dont want to do that with a high dollar piston thats hard to find anyway. Gary
