I have a question for someone who is familiar with the Progressive Suspension shocks, and the two rate springs they offer. Series 12 shocks.
The spring options are either the 1)standard weight, or 2)heavy duty rate - and I hope to narrow down my chances of choosing the best springs for my application.
- '73 Six-Day
- 200 lb riders
- mellow MX track
- ridden 2 or 3 times a year

Thanks very much in advance for any assistance.

Bob,
I have ridden the series 12 and found them a bit weak...even the heavy duty springs.....you might consider the series 13 instead...then again, I have 50 lbs on you

I run the Progressive 12's on my 76 400GS and use the standard springs on the most firm setting.  They work great and my weight is 165/170.  I have a set of the heavy rate springs if you need them as they are too stiff for me.  New in the box, $40 ( Iam bringing them to Mid Ohio to sell).

I'm 158pounds. Tell them you want the 65pound springs.I have them on my Berkie.Run bike hard in the expert classes.  have never bottomed out.

The 12 series is a gas shock using low pressure freon gas bag. Use a 65 or 75 lbs spring or a 65/100 multi rate.

I have also used the 14 series to good effect.  The 14 series is a non gas OE style shock similar to the original Girlings but better.
Being non gas you have to use a slightly heavier spring. You should use a 70/100lb spring.

I use a 12 series on my Penton Jackpiner with a 65/100 spring.  The 65lb was slightly too light.  The 65lb spring would work on my Six Day but I have a great set of Works Performance shocks on it.

I have a set of 14 series on my Hercules K100GS (DKW) and they work great.
I strongly suggest mounting the shocks body down / spring up as originals were. All my suggestions are for Vintage bikes and not PV.
