Just picked up a '73 250 Harescrambler project bike. Gonna need some work but  very doable project. The pipe looks like it's a typical expansion chamber, and the stinger is missing. IS this typical of the first production 250s? Will all I have to do is weld on the correct length of tubing and add a silencer/spark arrestor? Can anybody send send me a photo of what the tail end of the pipe should look like?
  Thanks a lot,

Dan,
 '73 250 pipes only came one way, unless it was modified, it should look like this.

Hi Rob;
   Well, I guess more than I think is missing! It comes to a "point" at the rear pipe mount, like a typical expansion chamber. All the other mounts are there and in place. The tank is the smaller MX style. Did the MX/MC version have a regular expansion chamber? I'll have to get the pipe off to check if the rear "can" section was simply cut off. From the looks of the carbon and such on things, it looks like it was run this way for a while.. It's a barn fresh bike, and when I just unloaded it, my older brother gave it a kick just to see what the compression felt like, and the previous owner must have been trying to check for spark and put something combustible in the cylinder, because it started and ran for a few seconds! I guess that is encouraging.
  Anybody got a '73 Harescramble pipe or pipe parts!??
  Thanks a lot,

Hi Rob;
    Been heavily lusting over the picture of youe '73 Harescrambler. Been getting information about the pipe. Everything about what I have looks like like it's factory. The welds, brackets and such. I don't see any evidence that the outer "can" was removed. I have a '72 Six Days that I cut the outer can off of to work out some long dents, and I remember seeing the end of the chamber like I'm seeing the pipe on this 250. There is a guy on eVilBay that has the silencer ends like yours, and fabricating everything else won't be too big of a chore, just need dimensions and /or diagrams. Could I trouble you to send me a close up shot of the end of your pipe. and the dimensions of the can, as best you can? Like outside diameter and length to where the miter cut is. Any idea what the inside looks like? I think there is some kind of perforated tube, can''t remember. I have a really dinged up pipe from a '74 400 that will need to be really worked on, and I guess that might be similar. After admiring your bike, I think I would rather have the larger GS tank also if I can find one. Thanks in advance for any help, and if you email me the pictures directly, I can send you some pictures of what mine looks like.

The 73 fishtail end fits perfectly onto a 72 Jackpiner pipe just the mounting loops are a slightly different orientation.  So find a Jackpiner pipe and youre in business for the back end or for good measurements if you dont want to hack the JP pipe.   There was one on ebay a couple of days ago.

Thanks for putting up the photos Mike. Maybe do the other two of the pipe when you can, just so it can be seen. I don't think I can use this pipe at all, even to modify. I'll be needing a pipe for this bike, if anyone has one laying around. Really enjoying the pictures of the other bikes also. Wish mine had the big tank. I'm just doing a rattle can fix up so I can ride the bike, but my bikes usually look pretty good when finished.
  Thanks a lot,
