I said don't look:D.Ok,i'm searching for a very nice yamaha yz125d (1977 model)1W1 starting vin #..Can be original,restored,or race ready/modified(if nicely done),no more projects please.Could be a real nice bike needing 1 or 2 items fixed,but prefer a get on and ride bike.Can pay cash or trade/cash for Penton bikes /parts.Also have other bikes might barter with.Thanks,

Still looking for 1 of these-ideally i'd like to find my old bike which was sold in the palm springs,so cal area.It was a 77 yz125 with pretty distinctive mods and was sold with a bunch of spares.It would have had a very low 1W1-vin #.I don't remember if i sold it in mx,gp,or desert trim but all parts went with bike such as-pretty much everything DG made for this bike,gold anodized head,gold ano swingarm,gold rims,buchanans spokes,DG cyl.,carb,pipe,silencer,yz250 al baker forks(blue fork skins,blue gator wipers),luft monoshock with resevoir,blue cz bend renthall
 bars,blue handguards+lever covers+terrycables,magura levers/throttle,translucent vesco skinny/fat tank(squarish at front-not the pregnant guppy looking one) with blue IT tuning fork emblems,blue fenders(hoss duckbill frt,it rear w it taillite),tall desert style seat,single cibie headlite,rewound it ignition and moto tek and stock ign too.The yz skinny tank had stock looking decals on it only in blue(jt racing),blue it175 tank/sidecovers went with it too,blue dg fim style sidecovers.Not much,if any yellow was on this yz.
      The bike had paint marks from score/baja and/or 6 day qualifier races,etc-green spots and maybe some red marks i think- also holes for the sealing wire/tags on head/cyl./frame.probably had checkers mc stickers on it.The left footpeg had been welded on as the bolt fell out during the 1000 and my co rider found a welder(but no bolt!)so it's peg bracket is welded to the frame splines,actually by the time it was sold it needed a frame bad  as it was stretched,bottom tubes flattened out,pegs sagged,etc.Regardless i'd love to have it back if anyone runs across it(i know million to one but...),much sentimental value,many good memories from this bike so some day i'll build another like it if not found.Sorry to drag on,figured decribing might help find my old bike.Thanks,Ric

Good luck in your search.  Cool bike. I worked in a Yamaha shop during that era, had a new '78 YZ 125 & IT 175,  Since I was an enduro nut, I would swap all the components around. Had all the IT stull on the YZ chassis for a while.  They were extremely rugged machines.

The IT's were cool bikes, if you recall the original 'V' series from the 80's they were running IT 490's, a calmer version of the 'what the heck just happened there' YZ490.

Ric,  It sounds like this Yamaha YZ 125 D was your all-time favorite motorcycle!  I enjoyed reading your long paragraph which describes the Yamaha in fine DETAIL.  Do you have any photos of your Yamaha, or did you remember all those details from memory.   Those were the days when we had fun adding accessories to HOP-UP our bikes.  Sounds like your bike had every available accessory added.   Good luck with your search.    Joe

Found a YZ-not my old one but i'll work with it.Still would like to find DG and/or any other hot rod type stuff for this bike if anyone knows of any out there-Thanks,

I now have 2 of these and am still hunting for a swingarm (DG or ProFab)and a vesco tank as described above.One is basically a stocker i've been riding evo class mx on,and the other will be a off road/gp/qualifier type bike i've gathered a lot of the parts for(including optional it centerstand).So if anybody runs across anything please let me know.Thanks again,

Iam currently restoring a 1974 YZ125A (one of the first 500 made) and never realized how hard it is to find parts for these machines.  When you do fine the parts, hold on as they can be very expensive.  Speed and Sport has been a real help but I have yet to fine a Tank Strap set, Air Boot, or a Skid Plate.  You sure can tell there is no group backing for the Yamaha Brand like there is for the Pentons and Husqvarnas.  very interesting and needless to say, my first and last Japanese restoration.  Funny note, when I took the forks apart, I thought the springs belonged in an ink pen!!!!![:0]  Now I know why European machines were more expensive, far better components![^]

Hi Kip,There's a guy that sells nice repop tank strap sets on Mark's vmx site once in a while.I'll see if i can find his info for you and foward it to you.Also,there a guy here in Tucson who's into the early YZ's and just did a yz125a-i'll see if he's got anything you need.Later,

Kip,This months AHRMA classified ads has the tank straps-at the bottom of the page.Saw them and remembered you were looking at one time.
