I've researched the POG site thoroughly over the past several days in an effort to find an aftermarket tank that will fit a 78 MC5 400 that has been converted to an Enduro/GS.  My current stock MX tanks is in beautiful condition, and so I would like to preserve it.

I've seen numerous threads that talked about using 3.7G Clarke tanks on MC5s. However, it seemed that the Clarke MC5 tanks were limited to the 76-77 MC5 models.

Does anybody know if a 3.7G Clarke MC5 tanks will fit on a 78 MC5 400 frame?
Does anyone have an old 78 Enduro tank that they would like to part with?

Thanks,

John

John,
I wish you had mentioned this before I met you at York, as I have a 78 MC5 Enduro tank with the oversize filler neck. By the way, the fittment of MC-5 tanks are the same from 76-78, with the exception of the petcock placement on the LH side, which is positioned farther forward in 78 to provide extra clearance for the Torque pipe. I will post a pic of my 78/79 MC-5/MX-6 Enduro tank for you. [email protected] Mike

This is what it looked like when I bought the bike, and here is a plastic tank that came on my other MX-6 and fits the MC-5 that I can't give away,...any takers?

Here is what the bike looked after the first restoration and following the Reunion Ride in Park Hills Mudfest in 2006.

Sorry, I didn't mean to post twice. The first message didn't post for me so I sent another. Then I figured out I needed to refresh my page. Sorry about that. Hank

Yes 76-77 mc-5 tanks will interchange with a 78 mc-5.  However, with the small oem tanks you can only run the right petcock due to the placement of the 76-77 petcock hole and the 78 snake style exhaust pipe.  So you may have to close up the left hole of the clark tank, dont know for sure.

JC I hope you are all sorted out by Mike.  If not let me know.  It looks butt-ugly but I used a plastic orange tank --  it is visible in my youtube video of your bike. It is enduro sized.   It allows both petcocks to function.  I would sell it for the price of the tank to me $20? Plus the petcocks $30? Plus shipping.  I would have to check the price but that should be close.  Has 3 hours of use.

I have a couple fiber enduro tanks thatwould fit but with ethanol that might be asking for trouble unless you are religious about emptying.
