Could someone please tell me what the gas/oil ratio is for a 1972 125cc Penton. What oil seems to work best??
Also- what about gearbox oil? Since I've been 125cc Penton-less for well over a year, I don't recall how many CC's or which of the two bottom bolts is the drain plug. The oil filler bolt is to the right and below the carb, isn't it.
These are probably dumb questions, but with a BIG race coming up this weekend I just want to get everything right!
Thanks,

As Doug Wilford would tell you if he wasn't on vacation>>  Use only Spectro oils.  Put 5 gal. of gas in your can and pour in a bottle of Golden Spectro premix concentrate and your all set.  Doug also recommends that to drain the gear box that you remove the clutch cover and let the oil drain.  This way you get more of the oil out, you can also clean any sludge out of the bottom of the cover, and you don't run the risk of having the threads come out of the bottom of the case when you remove the drain bolt. That is exactly what happened to me and it's a pain in the *&* to fix!!!!! It seems as these cases get closer to 1/3 of a century old they don't hold the threads as well.  Use Golden Spectro SAE 80W Gear Lube in the gearbox.  The oil filler plug is the one on top of the cases and under the carb, but to the right. The oil level screw is the slightly larger one just below and to the right of the shifter shaft. Set the machine up on a crate and fill it with oil till it starts to come out of that hole and put the screw back in.
Those are not dumb questions.  Many guys have many different answers. I have run these products in my Pentons for over 30 years and believe in them.  I even asked the Spectro people if we should be using any of their " new and improved " products, they said NO, for these machines these products are the best.  Hope this helps. Clay,
What kind of oil are you using? If its a good oil like Spectro I would use 40 to 1 for racing . You can use ATF in the transmission or Golden Spectro's gear box oil.
700 CC's is the right amount but you can use more with no ill effect.
The drain bolt is the normal looking bolt
about center of the transmission.
The odd looking bolt is the kickstarter stop . Do not remove it unless you want to split the cases to put the bits back in place.
Yes the oil filler bolt is to the right and below the carb.
Hope this is a help. This worked for me for many years.

Personally I like Maxima Super M. Similar to Spectro but burns cleaner. Comes in 16oz bottles so you can use 1 bottle to 5 gal. and get 40:1 mixture. Maxima 80WT. Gear oil or Spectro.

Paul, would that be a 12oz bottle of Spectro to 5 gallons of gas?? If so, that would be 52:1 (according to the back of the  bottle) correct, I've been out of the cycle to long to remember what I used to use, back in the golden days. This should cure my smoke and choke, thanks you guys.
