off topic. airboot needed for sachs 7 speed

does anyone here know a source that i can purchase an airboot for a sachs 7 speed? jake fisher nor rik smits have any. i need it for a standard bing 36 mm carb tothe airbox.   thanks chi jer

Jerry, What are the 3 measurements you need, i.e., carb OD, Airbox OD and total length?  Try Marks Vintage Site also, I have had wonderful response to parts requests there.  Good Luck PS:  Did you get the NOS sidecover for the Sachs Movie engine I sent?

i think i have a working boot. i bought one from al b that was a little undersized for the airbox side. soaking in hot water allowed it to stretch over the flange. problem solved. herc parts not as readily available as penton parts. thank God for buehners's     chi jer

dwight, i took the airbox off to get the boot stretched over the flange. i'll put the box back on today and mount the carb. i'll let you how it all goes and if it works out well i'll put the part # out there.    chi jer

Didn't Keith Taylor repop some of the Hercules rubber parts? I know it was one of the Taylor twins. I'll have to research that and get back to you. He's a member of the VINDURO Group and here also I think.

it took a little work but  part number 55-06-026-000 from buehners will work.  i had to trim the small end down as it was too long but it should work well..    chi jer

its not mine. the owner wanted to get it running and asked me to look at it. the kicker had issues and the carb was gummed up along with a couple of other minor issues but i didn't want to see it go back with a torn, brittle, and stiff airboot. i had one of these back in the day.seven gears makes for big top end speed. chi jer

I have a '77 Hercules 250GS/7 and a 175 GS/7. The 250 is wicked fast. They are kind of heavy for most peoples taste, but they are designed for ISDT work. The biggest issue with them is vibration. The engine is mounted at the rear, and from the bottom. This acts as kind of a spring board as the piston goes up and down and being mounted in only two places, can't absorb the resulting vibrations. The last models made had a front engine mount added to address this. The 175 has a set of head stays that help out. They are hard to fit to the 250 because of the way the pipe goes over the head, but I managed to add a set to my 250. Pay attention to the engine mounts and make sure they are tight after each ride, and Billy Uhl mentioned to me at the '03 ISDTRR that the swing arm nuts can be loose, and to really bear down on those. It has tapered bearings for the swing arm, and you can really crank down on them to help out. I did some work to the air.box to help it breath and allow more air flow. They are gas hogs,  since high speed usually equates to high fuel usage, so watch your fuel level between gas stops. They are a great bike, and Speedy Clasen can fill you in on some other details and maybe help out with some parts.
