Hello Everyone!
I am in the process of restoring one Malcolm Smith ISDT qualifier Husky's. The year was 1975. This is a 360 WR/CR (250WR frame with a 360CR motor) It had yellow paint marks on tank and hubs. Motor was possibly repainted.
The bike was purchased from Malcolm and then raced desert for a while. I'd like to be able find a picture of the bike at an ISDT qualifier to see what number it wore.
75 ISDT's
Forked River, NJ- he was not in the results.
Maybe California City.
It would not have been the Ft Hood Qual. He was mounted on CR there. Maybe Pell City, AL.
Trask Mtn he DNF'd. Haven't seen pics of the bike.
Maybe Bad Rock.
Maybe Potosi or Silver lake. I have only seen a couple of results lists.
I'd really to have the number this bike wore for qualifying just for accuracy.
Any help would be great.

Thanks,
John

I rode the Potosi event, I think it was '75, on my then new '75 250WR Husky, and still have the results book somewhere. Will dig it out and check it. Should have his number, class, and what he rode.

I remember an article from Popular Cycling, I think it was in the Spring of 1976, that had a lot of pictures of Malcolm's 1975 Husky (a 1975 Husky CR 360, I think).  The article had to do with preparation for motorcycles.  If I remember correctly, there was black paint with the number "252" on the motorcycle a couple of places.  I also remember him saying something along the lines of he used 1 through 4 CR gears, and 5 through 6 WR gears.  I hope this helps.

FYI - I reread the article last night.  It was in the May 1976 issue of Popular Cycling.  If I read it right, the bike in the article was used in the 1975 ISDT (apparently he used a different bike for the 1975 qualifiers), and was going to be used in the 1976 qualifiers.

Sorry to take so long to get back to this, but I have the results book from the qualifier in Potosi, MO that is post marked Aug 23, 1975. I can not find Malcom Smith's name in any of the classes. I remember Malcom being at Potosi for the '74 qualifier, and getting  his autograph on my Bell hat. I didn't remember him being there at the '75 event, but wasn't sure since I have slept a few times since then! I rode my then brand new Husky 250WR purchased from Dave Mungenast at his Dirt Bike Headquarters. Lot's of other notables in attendance, some whom I have met and talked with at ISDTRR events. But apparently I am remembering correctly and Malcom did not ride the event in 1975. Just went through the whole book twice.  I houred out at the event near the end of the first day. Rang my bell pretty good from hitting a tree after trying to keep up with Burleson on a timed section!

John,

Very nice restoration and experience!  Great job!  I'm in the process of preserving Jim Simmons's 76 WR360 he raced in the 76 Austria ISDT.  What fork boot brand did you go with on Malcolm's bike?

Thanks,
Keith
