74 250 Tranny problems?

Missing shifts, a lot, 2nd {when down shifting} & mostly 3rd gear quite often while doing some practice sessions on the track. I believe it popped out of third a few times after doing a small double. This is my first few times out on the bike. After draining tranny fluid, I noticed the sparkling of metal particles / shavings in the bottom of the drain pan?? Where do I stand, split the cases and inspect? Or? I've been racing a 74 250 Elsinore the past 5 years. I knew there would be a learning curve shifting, but I believe there is an under lying issue?? I'm talking multiple missed shifts a lap.  Some advice Gents, Thanks, Scotty

Need to split the cases. Check the shifter quadrant, bent shifter fork.  Check to see if shift drum locator pin is not worn. Hope this will help. Later Gary
