FYI  Was having problems with clutch adjustment, prematurely wearing down adjustment screw. Found the clutch assembly had a bit of wobble on the layshaft.  (worn layshaft)  Checked the layshaft with micrometer and found it had some wear where the bushing rides.  Removed the circlip and original shim at the outside end of the lay shaft. Fabricated and installed a thicker shim and installed a new bushing.  This tightend up the clutch on the layshaft eliminating end play and the wobble.  Clutch adjusted easily now and seems to remain in proper adjustment.  Was a real head scratcher for awhile!

Mike,
Glad to hear you found the problem. Your clutch issue is a great example of issues that plague older machines that defy logical solutions from "back in the day". Your posting of what you found to be the cause of the problem will possibly help others in the future, thank you for the follow up post.

I also need to thank John Born for helping me out with a refurbished
clutch pressure plate.  Thanks John!
