My 73 jackpiner needs a lower rod bearing. I got the parts from Al yesterday. My question is what's the best way to put in the clutch side crank seal?

the best way is to remove the crank, (its easier if you remove the clutch and trans prior to)  next remove the primary bearing from the center case out ward. then you have access to push out the seal cup towards the center of the centercases. (probably need a arbor press or hyd press.)  it will push out the outer race of the left side crank bearing.. once the seal cup/ bearing spacer is out remove the seal, paying attention to the direction that it goes. replace the seal and the outer o-ring of the seal cup/spacer. reverse order to re-assemble. do you have a service manual? it helps to be able to review the procedure. i use a old electric hot plate to heat things up to allow for easier removal. feel free to drop me an email [email protected]      chi jer

I do have a manual. I bought this bike from the original owner and he had a manual along with other cool brochures and info. I took the crank out and got it to the machine shop to change the rod. I chickened out on pulling the trans, but I did get both seals in.
 Thanks Jerry
