Hey does anybody know if a 1978 to 1980 ktm 125 and 175 mc5 exhaust systems are the same or is the 175cc larger in the mid section any help would be great thx.....

The 79 parts book shows the regular style pipe is the same for the 125 GS and 175.  The 125 MC had a different pipe. It had a smaller diameter stinger and seperate silencer. The silencer has an angled bracket that slipped over the silencer and had the right angle to the Rear frame mount. I have tried to get that bracket from Alan Buehner, but he didnt have it at the time, and I have never seen one come up on E Bay.  However, one could be made. I dont believe there were very many 78 and 79 125 MC's made. The pipe looks to be very similer to the 1980 125 pipe. The silencer has the same part no for 79 and 80. My guess is a 80/81 pipe would fit pretty easy. The regular 125/175 pipe will not make a 125 run good for MX.  It works great for the woods though. Its designed to be a torque pipe for both the 175 and 125. If you want a pict of the MC pipe and bracket email me at [email protected] and I will send it.

Mike maybe I should be refuring to a 1978 to 1979  125/175cc mx model exhaust are they the same or is the 125cc exhaust have diferent specs than the 175cc....any help would be great....

Mike Lenz

Yes, the 125 exhaust has a smaller stinger and seperate silencer.  Im not sure if the cone areas are different.  I dont believe they offered a 175 mx in those years.  If they did so it had the torque pipe I explained above.  Only one 175 pipe in the parts manual, two different ones for 125. The torque pipe had the same part no for the 125 and 175. Does that answer your question?
