I see that the Vintage and Evo Motocross racing at Vintage Days this year is going to be a 3-moto format, run on both Saturday and Sunday. My question is, if someone is going for the Grand Championship, how can they race their 2nd or 3rd moto on Sunday when they're riding the Trials at the same time???

James Niebrzydowski

I also race motocross and trials and cant see how it will work on sunday.I called the ama and they assured me they took that into consideration. I am not going for the grand championship but I still take the trials and mx serious, My call to the ama was not very reassuring.I think more calls to the ama might help.

I sent several emails with questions asking about the new format for this years Vintage Days.
I honestly don't know how it's going to work If your going for the Championship? Also this impound rule sounds like it will turn into a disaster. I truly hope there is a plan in place for this because if you have a racer riding the same bike in two different classes and the individual is fortunate enough to win the moto then the bike gets impounded then they miss their second class because their bike is sitting in impound.

I truly enjoy attending this event as a rider, crew chief and spectator but it just seems each year gets more difficult to justify the amount of money and time spent plus the abuse the bikes take to attend this event but it's only once a year so I do it.

Lot's of uncertainty for this years event I hope it all works out.

I think the impound is just to make sure that the bikes ridden in the class that took  1st, 2nd, or 3rd were correct an proper for that class. Last year in my vintage 125 mx race I lined up next to a 76 Elsinore and he won the race but was later disqualified. As I read it the bikes will be released as soon as they are verified. I ride multiple classes so it may mean one of my crew will have to sit with the bike if I place. That is my take on the matter.

I received an email from Chuck Weir (AMA) and he said that the MX department is aware of the potential scheduling issue and the plans are to run the eligible MX classes (3rd Moto)for the Grand Championship after the trials is completed.

Now they have to either shorten the trials event or start earlier so everything can be completed in one day.

This just sounds crazy in my opinion! Just imagine if you were not going for the championship but you are in an eligible class? It sounds like you will have to wait until the end of the day to run your 3rd moto on Sunday.

It could be worse? We could have to road race with knobbies then ride our bikes to race dirt track Saturday night? at least we would have enough time to catch the 3rd moto Sunday afternoon.

The AMA needs to stick with modern bike racing............ IMO

The confusion and lack of structure and consistency for the classes plus it always seems like herding cats makes me no really want to race there.  Now, the multi-day format makes it even worse.  What happens if it is like 2013 and rains and cuts all the races to one moto?  It could be a better racing event, but the rest of Mid Ohio rocks!  I guess they are at least trying.
