Calling all vintage dirt bike restorers! The Associate Editor at the American Motorcyclist Association is working on a story about restoring/building a vintage race bike for less than $2k. Are you currently working on restoring a bike? Have you restored a bike recently? We're looking for a list of your expenses, how you acquired the bike and parts, how you tackled the project, and when and where you will race/have raced the bike. You must currently be an AMA member. Please send an email to [email protected] with the subject line "Vintage Race Bike" or call (614) 856-1900 and ask for Heather by Dec. 1.

The Associate Editor is Heather Wilson. Heather is the daughter of Wally & Debbie Wilson.

Wally is a multi-time ISDT/ISDE veteran and is the owner of Wheelsports in Reynoldsburg, Ohio

Heather did a feature on herself for the AMA at Vintage Days this year riding her first ever race on a vintage bike. I for one am very proud of her accomplishments and seeing her grow up right before my very eyes.  Heather has been doing a tremendous amount of work covering all type of motorcycle racing and special events for the AMA. You can read many of her articles using the online version of the magazine. You may recognize her also in many of the AMA "You Tube" videos.

I tried to get her to do this with her dad because I know he has a black case 175 Penton just waiting for someone to resurrect it. Then she could race it!

All depends on what type of restoration it is. Above wants to know when and where you'll be racing it; so it's a racer restore. Also depends on what you can do yourself. If you buy a bike, hand it to someone else and pay them to do the work, then no. But if you can do it yourself, it's very possible. A friend of mine's son picked up a bunch of old bikes. One of them was a 73 Husky. He didn't want it so he gave it to me. Start with a free bike and add 2000.00? Very feasible and fun.
