I have 3 JackPiner skeletons to choose from.  I was up early and looked in detail at each one this morning.  I made my choice, based on what I really don't know, but I decided anyway.  I am restoring a 1970 Honda CT 70H and it went to the paint shop Friday, so my only lift is available.  I wheeled the sad old bike into the shop and started some disassembly.  Here are some pictures. http://s284.photobucket.com/user/timothyjcast/library/Penton%20Restoration%20%20Day%201

Thanks Mike.  I have done a search here and read about swingarm bushing removal. I got the rubber and center collar out with a torch.  Any suggestions to make removal of the outer sleeve easier?  I was going to Dremel it and carefully, patiently chisel the pieces out.  Tim C

Run a hack saw blade thru the sleeve, cut thru it 180 degrees and tap it with a chisel and the parts should near fall out.

Thanks, I hope to have the frame ready to go to the powder oater by the end of the weekend.  Hope you have a great Christmas!

Looks like a 72 low breather frame?  You got all the major components anyway to start with!

Tim, cool project. I am working on a 72 Jackpiner project myself that will be a survivor rather than a total redo. I am doing a bunch of maintenance, such as bearings, rebuilding forks, a thorough cleaning, etc. I was planning on doing the swingarm bushings. I have the swingarm removed and the bushings are a bit worn but not terrible. I don't want to flame the paint on the swingarm if I don't have to.

When I look through the bolt hole in the swingarm it almost appears to be one sleeve all the way through, however after good cleaning I can see where the bushing stops and the sleeve in the center of the swingarm starts. I was thinking that I could use my press on the center sleeve on one bushing and press the other bushing out, if the center sleeve "floats".

How is the sleeve in the center of the swingarm constructed or held in place?

Thanks for any help.

The sleeve in the center floats on the swingarm shaft.  I knew I was going to get my swingarm powdercoated so heat wasn't a problem.  What I think you can do is get a holesaw that is slightly smaller the inner diameter of the outer swingarm bushing race.  Drill out the rubber portion only and the inner race should come out.  Then carefully(I did mine with a sawzall) cut a groove in the outer race at 3,6,9 and 12 o clock.  I was then able to use a punch from the other side and pop the outer race out.  Hope this helps.

Thanks Tim. Very helpful information. I will try and get some pix posted  of my project on my photobucket account in case anyone is interested.
