I was in teacher training this week and someone used this quote by Albert Einstein.  It made me think immediately of JP, so I made this Meme:

Some times things can look ordinary with a fleeting glance , But with a little more observance and time can be extraordinary.Love that quote and could be JP the working man. Toolsurfer

Mick, thank you for your post.

I am sure some of you have heard this story, but for those who have not.

An experienced salesman had an appointment with John Penton at Penton Imports, having worked to get this appointment and not wanting to chance being late he arrived a bit before his scheduled appointment. As he walked towards the entrance of the building he noticed a gentleman in grubby work clothes doing some maintenance around the outside of the building. The experienced salesman sensed an opportunity to gain some knowledge of the owner of the company whom he was scheduled to meet shortly in the hopes of making a big sale.

"What is this John Penton fellow like" the salesman asked the worker. "Oh, he's OK I guess" was the reply from the worker. A short time later the salesman was sent back to John's office to meet with him...:D

Paul

PS  The link below will take you to a photo of JP and some of the Penton Imports employees standing in front of the former Penton Imports building during the POG 40/10 mega event.

Yes Sir, That was John Penton doing the yard work....

I remember going to Penton Dealer School and stopping over to the R & D building the evening before the school was scheduled to start, after we had checked into our hotel. Inside was Jack Penton and I think Dane was helping him as they lifted the grates off of the floor drain that ran the length of the floor, as they were cleaning the trough in the floor till it was clean as a whistle. Those boys all worked.

At the POG 40/10 mega extravaganza we took tour buses and visited the facilities that Penton used "back in the day". As we gathered on the sidewalk outside the old Penton R & D building to hear folks tell their stories of this fabled building, one of the photographers in the gang noticed the garage door to the building was open and they snapped the picture the link below will take you to, you can see those floor drains in the photo. Someday I hope to go visit the folks who own that building today and see about taking a little tour down memory lane.....and believe me, that building is full of memories.

When you look at the photo, the area way to the back left is where the inventory of new Pentons was housed for a period of time. The Cycleliner would be brought inside this long work area for service between cross country runs to various events. Ah the memories...:)

John and Ted Penton had a welder named Jack Hornyak (sp) who as they say could weld everything but a broken heart. Jack and his welder were stationed on the left side of the long bay under the overhang, those Hi-Point tools racks and numerous other items were created by Jack and his helpers right in that location.

Mick, I do apologize for rambling on in your thread, it wasn't my intention to do so...

Keep talking Paul, those of you who got to experience "Penton Days" back in the day help us visualize our day dreams [8D]

Paul: you got any old pictures of the cycle liner rigs they use to travel in ? I'm not sure but think I remember those from 1974 at Hungry Creek 100 . Most people at that time had vans , pick ups or some had the Utility vans if you had the means . Been a while and some of those brain cells are starting to(misfire ). Toolsurfer
