Hemmings has an article about the history of Pentons here:

http://www.hemmings.com/hmn/stories/2011/07/01/hmn_feature10.html

In it they mention that the first Jackpiner had a Puch (puke, push).

I don't remember this, and haven't seen one on this site or elsewhere. Is it true? How many? any members have one and can post pics?

I seem to remember this being discussed before, but forgot the details. I think it was not a production bike, just one bike that the Penton's built to convince KTM that they needed to make a 175. If I recall, there was resistance from KTM and the Puch engine was used to shame/threaten KTM which worked.

Didn't Kip Kern build a reproduction of it?

Please review the link to the Ed Youngblood article.

"Imagine my surprise when I saw that bronze-tanked motorcycle again at the Penton Owners Group compound at AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days in 2006! There it was: the machine I had seen by the chicken coop nearly 40 yearsPentonPuch with Bob & Kip ago. Actually, it was not THAT machine, but rather an accurate recreation owned by Bob Andersohn (pictured here on the left) and built by Kip Kern (on the right). Kern is a Penton restoration specialist."

Yes, built the bike featured in Ed's article.  Took me a year and greatly appreciated Jack Penton's/Dane Leimbach's help on this project.  Bike is in the Andersohn's family (St. Louis) collection with original literature.
