Magnesium corrosion

I have a crank shaft that is stuck in a case half, case half that came off doesn't look real bad, just wondered if there is something people use to help loosen or break up the corrosion, or do I just push the crank out? Thanks for any useful suggestions!

I push them out, scrape out all corrosion, glas bead blast then Glyptal the cases.  If deep pitting, JB weld holes then apply Glyptal.  Hate magnesium almost as much as powdercoat!:(

What is Glyptal and where do you get it? Is it useful for preserving aluminum cases also? Doing something to a mag case ignition area that is assembled and in a bike would be really useful.

Thanks Kip, never heard of the Glyptal, will check it out. I don't hate magnesium, I just hate idiots that let bikes sit without spark plugs, carbs, pipes, top end...!

Do a web search on Glyptal, it's a paint/coating used on electric motors, windings etc. Very durable. Mike

We used it in porous castings in large power transformers to prevent oil leaks.  Caswell is a good place to purchase, use the brush on kind not spray.  Has been used since the 40's with excellent results.  1 quart will last forever if stored properly.
