Interesting find at DCPlastics:

Don't have any past experience with HPI ignitions, but recently bought one for my 71 Maico 400 to replace the points/cond. set up.  Will be installing it in the next few weeks.

Nonetheless, this looks like a great deal and decent alternative to the two other mainstays (PVL, MZB), especially if you desire a lighting coil.  I have couple of spare, complete motoplat ignitions, in good working condition, just in case one my KTMs or Penton gives up the ghost. However, if I didn't, and needed to replace the ignition, I'd definitely consider the HPI set up.

BTW, does anyone have any experience with the HPI ignition?

I am a Dealer for them. Lighted ignition is $250.00 plus shipping. Also available is none light ,like PVL for $250.00 plus shipping. I have put 2 units on Jack Piner they work great. Has a 6 month warranty.

The person who rebuilt my 77 Maico 250 engine, Gig Hamilton, swears by them and has installed many of them and hasn't run into any problems. He installed one for me and although I haven't got the bike completed yet, I'm looking forward to it this spring. Mike

That's great Gary & Mike.

Gary, just curious I see that the ad says these units are for 73 & up KTMs & Pentons.  Any kits available for Sachs motors? Thanks in advance.

When getting a HPI for a Penton, you will need the thinner backing plate they make.

So....  how much better are they to the original Bosch units???

My concern would be why only a 90 day warranty?   Geez, there are still Motoplats running from back in the day.

G Ellis

I missed typed   they have a 6 month warranty.... I have been running one for 2 yrs, testing them. I have not had any trouble. This is an alternative.

Mick Milakovic

Gary, will they fit on Huskys?

Yes they have ignitions to fit Huskys. Just need year and model. I can check on pricing. Here is the link:http://www.hpi.be/index.php  Go to the application list. Just give me a call
