Question for the group, I purchased a 1976 KTM MC5 250 which has frame # beginning with 550 and the engine number beginning with 541 which based on the info on POG the frame is MC but the engine is 250II GS(RV). Thought possibly the engine or frame was changed out at some point in time, but on the original title from 1976 both of the above frame and engine numbers are displayed. Is there any chance the bike was shipped from the factory with different engine /frame combination? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

You have an interesting scenario. The usual engine number for a 76 MC5 250 would be 6-54xxxxx, and for 77 it would be 7-54xxxxx. 541 would be 54 for 250 engine and 1 is just the first number in your serial number most likely. The newer 541 style engine has the swingarm Bolt running through the rear engine mount and is not interchangeable in the frame or swingarm. If you can text me pictures of the engine number above the ignition cover and also the engine case at the swingarm section or rear engine mount it might shed some light on the situation. Definitely a late 76 with engine number in the low 10,000 range. I'm glad Lou Garcia's bike found a good home. Mike
