Greetings,

The Penton Owners Group meeting for June will take place on Thursday June 6th. at the usual meeting location inside the KTM building, just west of beautiful downtown Amherst, Ohio, beginning at 7 pm.

Please make note that there WILL NOT be a POG meeting in conjunction with Vintage Days. If and when there will be a July POG meeting will be discussed at the June meeting.

I have a slide show on a DVD from the Vintage 1000 ride. Is there a way to show it on a larger screen?

Greetings,

The meeting is shaping up to be a very interesting evening with Rick reporting on his Vintage 1000 ride, John and Jack will be telling of their visit to the KTM MotoHall preview, and possibly Bob Wentzel will have time after his trip to Austria with Quinn to make the meeting and give us a report on attending the Erzberg rodeo.

Possibly Bob will be giving Larry Ward and the guys a report on his Austrian trip on The Two Wheel Power Hour Tuesday evening on WKBN radio, 6 pm. It can be heard live several different ways or on Podcast.

Greetings,

Over the many years that the Penton Owners Group has been having monthly meetings there have been a number of them that for one reason or another you simply "had to be there" to understand the significance of what occurred, and this past Thursday nights meeting sure ranks right up there with those others.

Proud father Bob Wentzel telling of his son Quinn going shoulder to shoulder with many of the best riders in the world at the Erzberg rodeo in Austria was a real eye opener. Quinn's ride and his results were nothing short of incredible, but to hear the story told by his proud father and to hear how Quinn's mom was right there as well to cheer him on and give him support was just so appropriate at a meeting being run by a gentleman who has done it all and would certainly not have ben able to have done so without his family's support.

Then there is Rick Bennett telling us about how he had the John Penton movie going while he was working in his shop and that the idea to ride a Penton in the Vintage 1000 instead of his Honda planted itself in his mind.....and apparently took root ! Rick's matter of fact attention to detail is second to none from where I sit and as he showed his slides and told of how his Sachs powered Penton just ran and ran day after day was a joy to listen to. Rick told of how he started with a bare set of cases and searched out NOS bearing and parts to build his power plant as he had so much respect for the components that Sachs had used "back in the day" and how the Sachs engine ran like a fine Swiss watch the whole time. Of course it didn't hurt that Rick is an engine builder of note of Porsche engines and the knowledge that he has attained over the years allowed him to build a bullet proof Sachs engine. Ricks constant praise of that little Sachs engine was surely music to the ears of the man with the gavel in his hand Thursday night as he was the one who chose it many years ago to power the machine that bore his name.

I am sort of a loss for words when it comes to tying to explain what it was like to hear Jack tell of the trip to Austria that he and his sister Barb took with John for the opening of the KTM MotoHall. Jack's presentation went from narrative in telling of the praise and respect that John Penton received through out the trip, to history lesson in telling of how he learned on this trip of some of the significant connections that have brought modern day KTM to where it is today sort of happened by happenstance. I do believe that the same could be said of the success story of the man with the gavel in his hand Thursday night :)

It truly was a meeting for the books, and I very much doubt that anyone watching the procession of folks mostly walking slow or with a limp towards the door of the KTM building on the first Thursday night of most months could ever guess what takes place after the gavel is given a good wack by a 93 year old gentleman who is known and respected through out the motorcycling world, John Penton.
