Greetings,

At the Thursday evening POG meeting, John Penton had a number of interesting insights into his role as Grand Marshall at the Barber Vintage Festival.

The first Barber bit that you folks might find interesting is that the images on the poster shown on the Home Page were painted by artist Katherine Anne Hicks, a fact that amazed John.

Many of you may recognize the image of John standing with the Penton as the same one that was on the cover of the April 2010 American Motorcyclist magizine, apparently the photo that Katherine Anne Hicks worked from to create her artistic creation.

While looking at the poster after the meeting John expressed his amazement of how incredable Katherine's talents are. Pointing to the painted image of himself on the poster, in typical John Penton totally amazed voice accompanied by his "can you believe this" expression, John said "just look at this, it looks just like me"!

There is one difference in the painted image as compared to the cover of the American Motorcyclist, the shelves full of helmets that were in the background of the mag cover photo were left out....:)

If you can find a poster be sure to get it, it is truely a work of art that John Penton himself is truely impressed with and very much appreciative of as well.

PS   Be sure to click on the Home Page photo as it will enlarge which will allow you to better see Katherine's handiwork, if you click on it twice it will REALLY enlarge.

Greetings,

Another Barber Bit that John Penton told us about at the POG meeting has to do with his first lap around the track as Grand Marshall. Seems the folks at Barber had a very special car for John to ride in for the lap, a Porsche of some sort I do believe Jack said.

John said it was a bit of a struggle for him to get into the car and as they got under way he said he told the driver that he figured with him sitting so low that no one would even see him, "Hold your arm up real high and wave" was the driver's reply...:)

The worst part according to John was when the lap was over and he had to get out of the car. John said that two really strong guys from Barber carefully lifted him straight up and then out of the car.

The folks at Barber chose a different car for the next Grand Marshall lap for John to ride in.

Be there no mistake about it, John and Jack both said they were treated like royalty by the folks at Barber and were very grateful for the oportunity to attend the event with John as Grand Marshall.

Greetings,

    Another Barber Bit !

John and Jack both expressed their amazement at the number of younger folks who had a sincere interest in meeting them with many buying books and / or movies, while at Barber, for them to sign.

As a matter of fact Jack said he had to make a dash to the POG display area to secure more movies and books from the stockpile they had on hand.

At the POG meeting John had a number of nice 8 1/2 by 6 inch hand outs that I believe Barber had made up for the event, that are of a very high quality. They are a nice glossy card stock material with Penton related photos on both sides, along with some Barber Vintage Festival info, surely they will be a collectors item along with the posters.

John was kind enough to invite those attending the meeting to help themselves from the ones he had on had, apparently he had signed them earlier in the day as they were signed and had the proper date under his signature.

John and Jack both discussed how John's popularity and the popularity of the Penton story seem to be still gaining momentum even after all of these years...:)
