As I read the President's corner in this month's Still Keeping Track, again the issue of carb boot to airbox sealing with silicone is reiterated. I read it 57 years ago, but wondered how the factory class explained the method. We all know that the lip on the airbox is, IMHO just long enough to be adequate. I believe that came to light when the install and removal of the airbox proved to be very tight to the. LH side frame. Now after 56 years of removal most lips have been slightly " massaged".
So, silicone is messy, hard to clean up after removal, leaving a slick residue.
Please post the factory class talks or " your" method to get a clean look & keeping that factory clamp from getting siliconized. ( to death)
It's sometimes tought to get the boot securely on the airbox lip without adding another slick substance. ( that can be absorbed into the Gel.) Scotty Rat
Apologize for the long post!
