Thanks to everyone for your help. It was just as you said it was. the pilot jet was plugged. It took a bunch of effort but I got it clean. That jet on the XL 100 is so small that anything in the bowl would plug it up. I had tought that I had gotten it clean the first time and when I put it back together it ran alot better but started run poorly once more after just a few minutes. That wire from a wire brush was the hot setup. Bigger jets maybe cleaned up with out having to stoop to using a wire but that jet is so small no amount of solvent would ever work. Especially when you realize that the pilot jet on that bike IS pressed fit. Strange but true. My son loves the bike and I love being able to ride with Him. At least I am looking forward to riding with Him.
Again thanks to all and Happy New year!

Thom Green,I bought and raced my 76 250 MC5 in 76'and 77' but I am just now getting back into riding again.
