is there any way to quiet this model without sacrificing too much performance. It has the silencer tip attached with the three springs, but man, that thing is loud. Or am I just getting old?
Thanks Jerry

Take the cap off and check the packing.  I bet it is gone or oil soaked and not working.  If it is the stock pipe and packed well one thing Pentons weren't was loud.  Perhaps stifled.

Larry is correct on checking the packing and you may also check to besure you are not missing the internal baffle.  If you are missing the baffle you can order one from Al Buehner's Supply(see suppliers).  If you aren't sure of the layout of the pipe you can order a catelog from Al.

If your muffler is a bullet shape with (3) springs holding it on,it should have a internal (2)tubed baffle with no packing. The (2) holed muffler does not have a seperate internal baffle but should have a packing of fiberglass inside over the perforated stinger. The earlier bullet shaped muffler end has the seperate baffle and the stinger is not perforated for packing. The '72 and '73 CMF models are louder than the later models with the (2)holed muffler end.Al Buehner does have parts and packing in stock. For all POGER's that have not checked their packing-DO IT NOW ! We've repaired a lot of pipes that the chambers cones rotted away do to moisture absorbed in the packing and the outside of the pipe looked fine. The packing will wick up water/moisture and rot out the pipe from the inside.
