G'day Mates, I need some advice on how to remove this...

It's the mounting collar on the left-hand case from my 72 Jackpiner.  My 250 has a hex head and screws out and I've tried putting vice grips on this one and giving it a mild "grunt" without success.  I also thought that it might just be pressed in and so did a little tapping - again without success.

I'm a bit cautious with this because there's some new cracks in the case nearby - as well as plenty of old welded cracks.  What's the go here?  Do I apply more foot/Ibs to the spanner or get a bigger hammer?

Those are threaded into the cases with a very fine thread.  The cases usually crack/break at that point.  Being magnesium what it is, it will be corroded around the threads very badly (dissimilar metals).  About the only thing you can do is soak it in penetrating oil, apply heat while trying the visegrip/channel lock method.  Good luck as the whole thing may come apart and split.  This is another very weak place on the KTM engine.  If you are able to remove it safely, put some antiseize on the threads before reinstallation.  Hopefully helpful hint;  Two things you don't use on magnesium are locktite and silicone.  I wish you well!

I use antiseize on everything, especially between dissimilar metals.

Yes, you could mill this out and replace it but it would be a lot of work and time.
