taillight installation

POG, I'm getting ready to install the CEV taillight on my falk enduro fender. It's the light with the angled housing. I've seen what appear to be 2 diff. applications. One with the round rubber gasket  about 2.5" dia. and the other with a triangular metal backing plate that's sort of round on top. Which is correct or do both parts go together? Thanks,

The gasket should go on the outside of the fender and the backing plate on the inside.

Rocket, thanks for the reply. My question sounded a little lame but I don't have either of those 2 parts and wondered if I needed one or the other or both. I know now! Thanks,
