6 day fork springs

I couldn't find any info on this, or a good picture. My fork springs are progressively wound. The way I got them in, the small loops are at the bottom and the larger,more spaced out loops are at the top. I just replaced the fork seals and cleaned everything up and they work great !!  I'm not sure of the science behind the springs and thats my question.  Thanks
