I've just replaced the fork seals in my 1975 Six Days and a couple questions come to mind.  (1) Can the allen head screws which thread into the fork stop valves/damper rods unscrew themselves and back out all the way or will the axle prevent that from happening?  (2)  Has anyone ever had just one of the allen head screws back out while riding?  Just curious.

Craig, I have an allen wrench on a 1/2 in drive socket that I put on my impact wrench. With a couple taps on the trigger I either install or remove the bolt from the bottom of the fork leg. I've never had the bolt back out, or for that matter even get loose. That's not to say that it's never happened. I'm not sure if there is any engagment of the bolt threads in the damping rod with the allen bolt unscrewed far enough for the bolt head to touch the axel. Good luck. G man.
