I think I am going to cheat with this one and mill the head a little to raise compression since I will only be using this cylinder once or twice a year. If It happens again with the 125 cylinder then Im not sure what Ill do. To answer the other question, the transfer area is larger on the 175. I just opened up the bottom of the transfers on the cylinder some to gobble up as much air as possible. A better fix would be to fill in some of the area on the 175 bottom end also which I may do if the 125 cylinder winds up with low compression also. But I (nor my son) missed any shifts when we took it out! Too bad JP couldnt get KTM to produce this engine in 73! I know he tried from the stories Ive heard.

Mike are you running a 125 Sachs pipe off a Six-Day?
Were you able to check the clearance between the piston and the head with something like the lead core solder?
This is a neat project and its fun to see what was done to make it happen. How much clearance are you looking for when you mill the head?
