POG, starting my search for new/used set of straight:)alloy rims for my 74 125. Would like to know what the risks are in purchasing used 36 hole rims from other bikes that are already drilled at various spoke angles. Is it worth taking the chance that spokes won't line up with the hubs? Or will they line up depending....?
Or...should I just go with new/new old undrilled rims from a source like Buchanans or Waldridge, etc.? Was told, if If can find them, shouldered Akront rims would be most accurate? As for used, predrilled rims, I've been finding a bunch for sale here and there at much cheaper prices. Thoughts? Thanks,

I have had good luck using different rims on the DKW.The drilled angle is usually pretty close. This has been my experience although the purists out here might disagree. The only time you might run into trouble is when you go to a cross 4 pattern which has extreme angles toward the rim.

I used Akronts that I scrounged from a couple of trashed Yamaha enduros without any problems. I have also laced a DID from a 73 CR125 to my front hub as well without problems. I would suggest giving the local sources a try first.

Chris,

I used Akronts I picked up from Ebay on my 74' Six Day. The production guide lists chrome rims for the 74' Berkshire and Six Day but I have seen so many of that vintage with Akronts that I went with them. Just make sure the spoke count matches.

Thanks guys for the input! There's a huge bike boneyard up the street from me and the guy wants 30 bucks a piece for various alloy rims. Just moved to this town a year ago and found out about it this summer. Weather's cool here now (FL) so I'll be going there to do some digging around this weekend. He's got hundreds of bikes stacked 3 high in the weeds covering about an acre. Many more in better shape in 3 large sheds! Bet there's a few goodies in there

Probably some great hidden treasures there. Keep and eye peeled for Pentons and Penton components.
