I need expert advice on the following;

Will the 250 KTM cylinder and head from a July 75 "dial" motor fit on a 250 KTM motor with a July 73 "dial" ?

Hi Victor!Great to hear from you.Please give us all an update on your condition.As far as i know all 250's from 73 to 77 or 78 are the same. i could go get my parts list and check but i'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong-i know all motors from those years are interchangable as far as frames and different year motors.i'd go out and find my parts lists but my ankles are the size of softballs.did you have any foot swelling before your incident?I've heard many wannabe doctors' opinions on the foot swelling(even some real ones).what were your symptoms if any before your attack?And how's the recovery going?Are you going to make it to Phoenix in Feb.?Hope your doing better and Happy New Years! Vic,
  Email Kip, he will know.  There were subtle changes over the years even though we tend to think it was all the same.

Yes the clylinder will work!The side port window cuts were only differencethat I could think of?If you really want to make it run stock,find a 76-78 cylinder and head the factory porting is alot crisper and cleaner?That old 75 cylinder probaly still has old square port windows?The newwer 76 has winged and the liners are different because of it?I have cylinders and pistons I may want to part with?By the way Vic does you're bike have the special frame without high breather,or high breather traditional Penton of the time?If it has the special frame chances are you got a west coast KTM that old Ted imported,there 75s, were the same as our76s had newwr cylinder before east coast seen 'em,just like they had 38mm zokes on there bikes when the mc5s out there were jackpiner blue,kept old world colors,when are bikes were orange and we didn't see them back here till 78 model year new white /red bikes same as the off set top tripples with single hex bolt tighteners on side of trees you didn't get them unless imports gothem for you,only if you were a good rider,but not stock back here till 78 models?I would have stuff that you could make the 75 original,just like picture of lituriture,I may have an extra shock that the other ones bent if I can find it you could have?Bob[8D]

What I have noticed in my engines and my brothers 1978 250 MC5 is that by 1978, or before, the transfer ports at the base of the cylinder were changed to a more squared off style that has a slighty larger overall area and doesn't match up to the earlier versions. I am not sure when exactly the change was made, but the squared off versions continues through 1980 at least. If someone has engine spare parts books from that time frame, the base gasket is different when the change was made. Horsepower increases up to 42 horsepower @ 7500 RPM in 1980 Vs. 36 or 38 in 1978 sales brochures were a by-product of this and possibly other subtle changes. I am not aware of any other cylinder to crank case mating changes until then, but I'm no expert by any means.

The latest issue of "still keeping track" has a nice article about the different revisions made in 250 and 400 cylinders. My late 1975 250 has revision 2 and it runs noticeibly crisper the my friends 73 250. There is listed a revision 4 and also Carl Cranke's porting specs. Worth the $20 for joining POG. BTW, Victor, congrats for scoring the 250 from Mitch Boehm, try to have it ready for next years calender! You are stylin great on the 2006 version. Happy New Year, Wildman

Vic,

It's great to hear from you. You are on my daily prayer list. Nothing like a Penton project to help recovery!!!!
