Promoted by a Southern California vintage restorer...the "Vintage Iron World Championships" were held on the National Track at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, CA on June 3rd. and 4th.

Two Classic Penton Six Days won the 125 Classic Expert, ridden by Bruce McDougal and 125 Classic Intermediate ridden by yours truly, in the 40 plus was a Penton Jackpiner ridden by Larry Good placing a close second overall.

The three Pentons got lots of looks and it was fun trying to follow Bruce on his METTCO 125, before he got too far away !

A special thanks goes to Marc Biro for assisting us in the pits as the temperature hovered around 110 degrees.

Lots of fun and hope to see more Pentons next year.

This was a challenge for me....the National Track is quite difficult on a vintage machine and my cardiac Doctor suggested against it....but I would rather go on the seat of a Penton than a seat of a bedpan !

Doug Wilford

Victor,Thanks for the report, it sounds like a normal summer day in Southern Cal.   Thanks to Bruce and Marc also.    Take care and have fun!

Marc Biro

All 3 riders did a great job. Bruce has not lost an ounce of speed since his youth, and can really put the hammer down when he needs to!
Larry G. was going to be a spectator that day until Victor offered him the Jackpiner to race. My hat really goes off to Victor who not long ago was having stents placed in his arteries. Victor gives it all he's got when racing. I give him the 'hard charger' award for that weekend! All 3 riders had podium finishes. POGGERS should be proud!!

Funny thing....When Bruce pulled up Sat. morning with his "Mettco" Six Days in the back of his pickup,I noticed some 'cobb webs' on the rear wheel. He said; Oh yeah, it's been sitting in the corner of my garage for quite a while!
