I was thinking about ways to make my 75 250 faster for better starts when I realised less weight makes a better power to weight ratio. So, if I lost 20lbs, what would the effect be in horsepower terms? I figure a neat way to go faster without touching my bike is to shed some excess pounds. Any way to figure this? After breaking my foot this winter I fell off my routine and I am at a all time high weight. Thanks, Wildman

I am not sure how true this is, but I always heard that 7 lbs = 1 horsepower, drop 7 lbs, gain 1 horse.

Wildman,

//www.stockmopar.com/reference/moparterms.html

The standard unit for measuring engine power: 1 hp is the power required to lift 550 pounds of weight one foot high in a second.

Not exactly sure how to apply those definitions, though.

That's a useful bit of info Dwight.
Think about this too: 20 lbs is about the weight of a large bag of dogfood. Try riding an enduro with one of those strapped on your back........

I should be able to gain about 2 or 3 HP then. (Or more but lets be real!) Thanks for the reply, an easy to remember motivator. Wildman
