Does anybody have a good source for paint or the color number's for painting Penton frames and gas tanks.

Chris Brown

Hi Kirk,
I went to my local auto paint store and bought Dupont Centari and the reducers and hardners to shoot it.
I took the old tank down and with their universal chip pages matched up a blue in the sunlight that worked out perfectly. If you would like the paint number for Penton blue let me know.
For the frame I picked out a bright silver from another chip page and it worked out beutifully. I would recommend you invest in the self etching primer as it will make your paint much more durable. These paints are expensive but are like epoxy when cured, and still considerably less than powder coating. The very best finish is powder coating, but expect to pay $250-$300 for blasting and coating a frame.
I used semi-gloss black for the hubs, and PJ1 satin case paint for the engine. Die-hard restorers powder coat everything.
Set a goal for a restoration level of quality and then work toward that end. It always takes more effort and $$ to do it right, but the end product then becomes a source of great satisfaction. Done cheaply it just looks like it needs to be done again.
Good luck!
