i got a penton and do not know what model it is.

I bought a penton last night and i do not know what model it it. i has a red fiberglas tank. the previous owner said it is a 250.the serial number on the steering head is
5'510 87030. HELP!!!

The serial number you have listed might be missing one digit.  5?510 870030.  The 510 means that it was made in the 10th month of 1975.  The digit that I think is missing would indicate the size of the bike. If the digit is a 4 it would be a 250, example, 54 510 870030.  Hope this helps and doesn't confuse you too much.  Since it was made in October of 75, it would be a 1976 bike.
