6 fins webbing forms a V on sides.  Bolt on manifold.  54mm NOS. May be GS ported but don't know how to tell.  Just purchased with a box of Sachs stuff at Mid-Ohio.  Anyone know how to tell the 2 apart? Ted

Hi Ted,
I found this info on the Monark web site. The GS motors for the Monark bikes produced in the 70's had wider transfer ports with the intake and exhaust being the same as a "B" cylinder. The GS also had the intake side of the piston shortened 2mm to increase the intake open period and the head is machined to bring the compression up from 13:1 to 15:1.
One note, the Monark piston has the pin in the ring land moved to prevent ring snag, because of the wider transfers.
Now I'm curious is their a D and a GS cylinder?
Hope this helps,
RonW

Thanks Ron.  Probably is a standard D cylinder.  Will be putting on Ebay in near future unless someone makes a good offer here.

If you bought the "D" cylinder I looked at (M/O)it will need a new liner.  Check the bore size and look at the gouge, before putting it on "E"-Bay
To my knowledge all the "D" cylinders have GS porting.   They are ported different than a stock "B"   Plus you don't need to machine the head to increase compression, the cylinder is 1 mm shorter than a "B" Cylinder
Have Fun!

Doug, thanks for your correction.
I made a wrong assumption about machining the head to increase compression. I stand corrected.
I have a D ? GS cylinder (6 fins, V-rib, flange mount carb) to replace my "B" (cylinder now at 55.5mm) when she wears out, shes done.
What sort of power band should I expect with the "D" cylinder. Do I need a different pipe.
Currently running Circle F, also have a stock pipe.
Thanks again, RonW

The power band will only hit a little harder because of the
compression.   I would try both pipes and use the one you
feel more comfortable with.
Have Fun!
