A patient of mine just dropped by a May 1973 copy of Popular Cycling.  In it was coverage of a race at Bay Mare with some rather noticable people: Gary Jones on a factory prototype 250 Honda, Marty Tripes on a CZ, Jim Weinert on a factory Kawasaki, Tim Hart, Gene Cannady, Billy Paine, Bob Grossi, Bill Clements, Richard Thorwaldson (on Joel Roberts world championship 250 Suzuki), Lars Larson on a Maico, Jim Pomeroy, Ken Zahrt, DeWayne Jones, Mike Runyard, Richard Eierstedt, Danny LaPorte, Marty Snith, Bruce McDougal, Bob Messer, etc, etc.  Several of these guys ran 2 separate classes.

They had 175 riders competing for cash.  Each class, the 125, 250 and Open classes had to be divided into separate divisions(A & B). Each division ran 2 20-minute motos, and the top 15 riders from each division ran together in the third moto with the combined points from all three motos determining the winner.

Pentons did very well in the 125 class.

Haaaaaa, the good old days when you could go to your local track on any given weekend and see some guys ride.  Just think, several of these guys were riding 2 clases, each composed of 3 20-minute motos, thereby totalling 6 20-minute motos.

Pentons did good in the 125cc class, 5 of the first 7 places, not too shabby.

Have a great day.
