Have taken out the bottom allen head screw but the siders will not come out of the tube - they side fine and hit bottom of the tube as well- do they come out from the bottom is that a big hex cap that needs to come off ? :(

Do not remove the large hex cap at the bottom of the tube. The stanchion tubes should pull out once the allen bolt at the bottom is removed, however, I have seen some were the bottoming cone that is at the bottom of the damper rod has become distorted, most likely because of over torquing said allen bolt, and it deforms between the rod and the counterbore that it sits in in the large hex cap. In those cases I have had to clamp the stanchion tube in a vice and pulled really hard repeatably to get the forks apart, sort of like a slide hammer. Be sure to use some wooden blocks between the vice's jaws and your fork tube.
I have made a wooden clamp fixture using a 2x4 about 6 inches long and hole-sawing a 1-3/8 inch hole (for 35mm tubes - 1.5 inch for 38mm) in the center and then cutting it down the middle lengthwise. If you want to make it swoop-deluxe, drill a couple of holes through it perpendicular to and on either side of the 1-3/8 inch hole for putting dowel rods to allow the two halves to slide on w/o falling apart. This makes it a lot easier to use ;)

You might try reinstalling the allen head screw back into the dampening rod, then loosen allen head screw one or two turns.  Next, using a hammer and punch, tap the allen head screw in an effort to drive the dampening rod out of the locating cup or the cup from the bottom of the slider.  You will be able to tell if something is moving by checking if the allen head screw is now tighter than the one or two turns it was loosened.  Repeat as necessary, remembering that as the screw has less and less treads engaging the dampening rod the more likely damage can occur to the treads of the dampening rod or screw.

Looks like a strong pull did the trick and a pair of latex gloves for grip! Thanks for TIPS :D!

Gooddirt,

I have a 250cc MC5 serial number 00244 with the 225mm ceriani forks. I'm curious, what are your forks on?

If anybody has any of these out there for an MC-5 with straight tubes I would be very interested to buy!
Thanks
